~ ~ HOMES WITH HEARTS INSIDE ~ ~

Admiring old New York mansions and filling them with imagined lives inspired me to write my novel Secret Chambers.

I was poor when I lived in New York City, and this was wonderful because it forced me to experience the city in ways that cost little or nothing.  I explored by foot, bus, and subway.  I especially admired the beautifully preserved 19^th-century homes; but they often were private dwellings closed to the public, or they were open to visitors for a fee I could not pay.  Still, I enjoyed looking from outside at these grand old mansions and imagining lives being led inside them.  It was in these musings that I first “met” the characters who inhabit my book Secret Chambers about four 19^th-century families intertwined by dark secrets and deep love.  In my imagination, these people really live, and I care about them, and their troubles and joys, very much—and I want my reader to care too.
